The Avery basketball teams will both open the North Carolina 1A state basketball playoffs with home contests.Avery's women will take the floor at 5 p.m. Monday afternoon against the Elkin Lady Buckin' Elks. Following that contest, the Avery men will meet the West Wilkes Blackhawks. Avery defeated the Blackhawks in its lone meeting this season, as the second meeting in Miller's Creek was canceled due to inclement weather.
With an opening round win, the Lady Vikings will either host Rosman or travel to Hiwassee Dam for its potential second round contest. A win from the Avery men will set up either a home game with Swain or a road game at Nantahala.
