Avery JV football fell 26-8 to West Wilkes in JV action Thursday night at MacDonald Stadium. West grabbed a 6-0 edge, but a pair of additional quick scores in the second quarter extended the Blackhawks lead to 20-0 at halftime.
Avery got on the board midway through the third quarter on a Spencer Blackburn 17-yard touchdown jaunt, and also scored on the two-point conversion attempt, cutting the West lead to 20-8. West answered with a long scoring drive of its own to build its lead back to 18 at 26-8.
The game was called with 6:27 remaining in the fourth quarter as lightning was sighted by officials at the stadium. After a brief delay, the coaches from both teams agreed to end the game and shake hands.
