Avery quarterback Alex Villanueva is currently ranked second among leading passers in Western North Carolina.The sophomore signal-caller is 41 for 88 passing for 649 yards and five touchdowns. Villanueva is second only to Tuscola quarterback and U. of Virginia recruit Tyler Brosius in passing yards. Wide receiver teammates Andy Gonzalez and Taylor Potter rank in the top ten in yardage among pass catchers in the region.
The Vikings will be back in action at home Friday night when they take on the neighboring Cloudland Highlanders in the third annual Avery Journal-Times Border Battle Classic.
